Mr. Malkan began his training in Taekwon-do at the age of 7 under the head instructor and primary bodyguard to the Korean ambassador to Oman. He worked up from white belt to blue belt at an accelerated pace. After coming to America and a 9-year break from Taekwon-Do, Mr. Malkan helped start the Marquette University Taekwon-Do Club. As one of the founders, he helped define the club and select instructors.
As an active member, Mr. Malkan trained hard under several instructors towards his black belt. He earned his first-degree black belt in April of 2002 from the Marquette University Taekwon-Do club. Mr. Malkan has participated in several local tournaments where he has placed 1st in forms, sparring and breaking. Mr. Malkan is a very accomplished martial artist, and has a passion for teaching Taekwon-do since 2001. Students appreciate him as an easy to understand and aggressive instructor.
In addition to Taekwon-do, Mr. Malkan has had several experiences in other martial arts via specialty seminars. He has developed a strong understanding of Judo as applied to Taekwon-do and has effectively demonstrated this at several seminars. Mr. Malkan has conducted several seminars in self-defense, university violence and Ju jitsu. In addition, Mr. Malkan has help set up several seminars for parents and college students for personal protection, Taekwon-do and self-defense.
